April is Auto Crime Enforcement Month and this year’s message to vehicle owners is lock before you walk. But what does this message mean for drivers?

It means drivers need to remember to check that their vehicle doors are locked before they walk away from it, no matter where the vehicle is parked, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. Don’t get into the habit of leaving your car unlocked while you run a quick errand or while it’s parked in the driveway. Any insecure vehicle becomes a potential target for vehicle thieves.

Some questions to ask when leaving your vehicle are:

Auto Crime Enforcement Month is an annual event, supported by IMPACT, the BC Government and ICBC. Each year, a concerted effort is made to promote awareness of auto crime to try and prevent vehicle owners from becoming auto crime victims.
