File # 2024-658, 2024-675
Police in Prince George have responded to two pedestrian-involved motor vehicle incidents in two days, which is prompting them to issue a winter safety reminder as we continue through our dark winter months.
The first incident occurred on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 just after 4:30 p.m. when a pedestrian was struck while in a crosswalk at the intersection of Second Avenue and Victoria Street. The pedestrian suffered serious injury and was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services. The driver in this incident is cooperating fully with the police investigation, which is ongoing.
The second incident occurred on Thursday, January 9, 2025, shortly before 8:00 a.m. when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing Fifteenth Avenue near Patricia Boulevard. The pedestrian suffered minor injury in this incident and was taken to hospital by Emergency Health Services. The driver in this incident is cooperating with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
We want to remind drivers and pedestrians alike that road safety is everyone’s concern,
states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. Especially during our lengthy winter months where we still have dark hours lasting into the morning and beginning early in the afternoon, we all need to take extra precautions to enhance the safety of pedestrians using the roadway. This includes double checking that intersections are fully cleared before proceeding through, making sure to wear reflective clothing if you are going to be walking in the dark, and ensuring we are not distracted while using the roadways.
